SINGAPORE: Beachfront glamping is coming to Lazarus Island, cementing efforts to turn it into an eco-tourism hub. It is part of a suite of offerings unveiled by the Sentosa Development Corporation to promote rustic adventure on the Southern Islands, but with what it describes as a "light touch". Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan was at the launch of the new facilities.

It was reported on Feb. 28 that Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) is teaming up with local ecotourism company Big Tiny to put "tiny houses" on the island that is open to the public for booking.

New ‘tiny houses’ to open for short-term stays in Lazarus Island in April
SINGAPORE - Lazarus Island is now a step closer to being transformed into an eco-tourist destination, with the launch of low-carbon “tiny houses” for travellers to stay the night.
Known as Tiny Away Escape @ Lazarus Island, the five units will be launched this April, marking the first accommodation built on the island for short-term stay. Each unit comes equipped with green features and measures about 150 sq ft – half the size of a standard hotel room.

Smaller firms like rental e-scooter company Neuron Mobility and eco-tourism focused company Big Tiny, which builds eco-friendly "tiny houses", also have a presence in New Zealand, he added.

Eco-tourism startup Big Tiny raises US$3m in round co-led by Koh Boon Hwee
ECO-TOURISM company Big Tiny has raised US$3 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by 4 investors - Singaporean businessman Koh Boon Hwee, Phillip Private Equity, GPPC Capital Limited and Ascend Angels.
The funds will be used to fuel further growth in Australia as well as an anticipated expansion into the New Zealand market in 2022.
In a press statement on Tuesday (Nov 30), Big Tiny said the latest round of funding gives the business a valuation cap of US$22.5 million.
